As stated in the week prior this week, and potentially the final week will be spent doing admin work for the project. This decision was made in order to ensure that the best viable product is made by the end of the submission.

I began this week by making changes to all of the text based segments of the main menu. This was needed to be done based on the fact that FPS Engine comes with pre established fields of text. Fortunately enough this was very simple to do and just required myself going into the UI element and changing the TextMeshPro text input segment to what was required for my product.

In addition to this a relatively big addition that improves the overall ease of use of Breach, is the inclusion of more recognised voice fields for the "drop the hostage" voice command. In theory this would allow for the mechanics to flow better and actually allow the player to interact with the hostage enemy type without having to speak out a specific phrase.

During this week I also added the hostage navigation points to the new level, thus solidifying the game loop. This was the final thing needed for what I feel as a minimum viable product for Breach. Whilst of course I would like to add more the balance of all of the assignments content and also Tranzfuser is currently limiting as to the amount that I can contribute to this project.

This week was relatively limited in terms of my contributions to the project. This is a result of having to focus on a large amount of things at the same time whether it be presentations or external commitments. In the week prior I stated that I would like to continue the level of contributions in which I achieved during that week. This ultimately wasn't achieved and whilst I did attempt to make more contributions to the project than what I did do. For example, I had plans to add animations to my enemies in order to make the game more polished, but as a result in a lack of my knowledge in the field and my tutor not being able make it into lesson during this week this ultimately was not done.

My plan for next week is to wrap everything up into a product that successfully displays the designed game in which I outlined in my GDD. This will mostly include the final touch ups to UI and game balancing. If the opportunity arises I would like to add animations to my enemies so that I can have movement for them. However, if this doesn't come to light it would not be then of the world based on the fact the gameplay loop is still somewhat efficient without it.

Task for next week:

  • Finalise the project

  • Balance gameplay

  • Potentially add animations?
