This week solely focused on getting the GDD to a point of being finished. In order to achieve this I added the following segments:

  • Enemies

  • Gameplay Overview

  • Game Overview

  • Target Audience

In general excluding enemies these segments are relatively minimalist with them being used as means for the consumer of the document to better understand the overall vision of the game and audience it is intended for.

Enemies

This segment outlines how the enemies inside of Breach should function. In total I landed upon having four enemies in the game which all offer something different in regards to how the player has to deal with them. They are; Basic Enemy (Static), Basic Enemy (Follow Player), Brute/Heavy Enemy and the Hostage Enemy.

I decided that it would be important to outline how each enemies AI states should function so that when it comes down to actually developing them I would already have some sort of idea as to how to achieve my intended goal. Personally I feel as although Enemy AI can make or break a game especially at an indie level so it is vital that in my game I am able to achieve something efficient. This is somewhat represented in my choice of enemy types as whilst not necessarily challenging to create the variety that I have outlined should differ enough as to where they successfully impact gameplay.

Gameplay Overview

For this segment I created a basic diagram to display the gameplay loop.

Game overview

This Segment provides the viewer with a brief overview of the game. Furthermore, it outlines what should be achieved by the end of the production cycle setting a realistic goal of a vertical slice which successfully displays gameplay systems and mechanics.

Target Audience

Lastly I outlined the target audience that I should attempt to reach. In order to better understand who I am targeting I used external data website Statista which outlined the fact that the primary age range of the FPS genre are people between the ages of 20-39. Furthermore, to avoid any issues regarding the game being consumed by inappropriate audiences it was important to note down the fact that the game is rated at 18+ despite not necessarily containing a high degree of violence.

Following the conclusion of this week I feel as though I have succeeded in the task that I have set for myself in the last couple of weeks prior of completing the GDD to a passable standard. When reflecting upon the work that I have done I feel as though I have created an effective showcase of the game through documentation. This puts me in a strong position as it now means that I can begin working on creating the game inside of Unity.
